Mike was always fun to be around.  I don't remember him as being the life of the party, but he always seemed to fit in.

Here comes another anecdotewink.  Mike was also a member of the Panther Football Team, and had a unique ability observed by Coach Bagley one day during practice.  It was not unusual for guys to exhibit their ability (or lack thereof) to punt the ball or kickoff from a kicking tee.  One day Mike was observed "drop-kicking" the football high and long down the field (40-yards plus).  This was a technique used decades earlier by the likes of Jim Thorpe and Ernie Nevers, but long since abandoned.  For whatever reason, Coach Bagley decieded that Mike would use this technique in our next game for the initial and post scoring kickoffs.  I don't remember the opponent, but Mike's initial drop kick was a dud (a line drive), traveling about 20 or 30 yards.  His subsequent couple of attempts were equally disappointing (or worse).  Bagley's visions of connecting with football history were dashed that day.  I think Mike might have been a little embarrassed, but he seemed to take it in stride and remained Mike Tenter.

Rest In Peace my friend.

Mike.  Good football recall about Mike Tenter.  I happened to see Mike a few years after graduation, at the Oakland induction center.  High school had become a distant memory by then.  He seemed about ready to do his duty, as I surely was not.  Short version of long and ongoing story.

The year that we went to Montgomery and had long bus rides, Mike became my " bus boyfriend".  I am not sure how we ended up sitting together initially, but we formed a lasting friendship on those rides.  I remember a lot of teasing and laughing and good times with him.   The last time I saw him was in a little apartment I lived in with Gus Goodson right after they returned from Viet Nam.  He and Don Drennan came to visit us late one night and we sat around drinking beer.  Me and the boys.  It seems like yesterday......

Mike was a very close friend and classmate and he will be missed. The escapades that we shared are too many to recount, but they always resulted in fond memories. I will always remember going road hunting or going fishing on Mark West Creek.  Other times, we would get together with other members of the Sunday luncheon club for a meeting. Yes, Mike, you were a true friend and will be missed.
