John and I were friends.  He was so much fun to go out with.   I was so sad when I realized he had been killed in Vietnam.  He was only there 2 months and did not die in combat.I was able to pull up his info on a Vietnam Vets website. He will be missed by all his friends.

I had a few classes with John and remember him as being a friendly person and a lot of fun. I was saddened to hear of of his death in Vietman at such young age and short tour of duty. I remember finding out that he wasn't killed in combat which made it even harder to withstand.  RIP John.

Here's my story about my memories of John Snyder.  In the summer of 1992, Kathy and I took our family on a trip to the East Coast, visiting New York, Washington DC, and other points of interest.  Our two children were still in school.  We walked the Washington DC Mall twice, visiting the Vietnam Memorial both times.  On our first visit, we walked the length of the memorial, a very moving experience to see all the names of those who died in the war.  On our second visit, I looked into the book at the end of the wall, and looked up John Snyder's name to see where it was on the wall.  Then I walked down to the panel where his name was engraved, and found it.  I put my hand on his name, and had a profound experience.  Every one of those names became a real person, like John.  I vividly remembered trips to the coast, to Tahoe, goofing around at Brendlin's house or Birdy's house.  All those memories came back, and then were multiplied by 50,000.  Each one of those names became a real person who loved and laughed and enjoyed life, just like John.  It was like being connected to an electrical current that jolted me back to memories of high school, then back again to the reality of all of those names, each one with its own stories and memories.  I will never forget that experience at the Wall.  John Snyder was part of many of my adventures during my high school years.  We had many good times together, along with many others of my friends.  He was also part of my extraordinary experience at the Wall more than 20 years ago.   John Nattkemper

I had a huge crush on John when in Junior High.  :-)   Loved that he played the French Horn.  I will always remember what a cutie he was...and so fun...flirty...great smile and laugh. Knowing he didn't die in battle for me is lighter somehow...maybe knowing about brutal deaths of others. Seems it was a helicopter transport incident. It is so hard to remember someone so full of life...not having the opportunity to live more life..leaving for heaven way too early.  You are missed John.

John was a good friend. I remember spending much time with him, Stuart S and John Rowe.  Several years ago I was taking a summer class at Sonoma State U., and happened to eat lunch in a small memorial garden. There on one of the stones was John Snyder's name. It choked me up as he was the first classmate that I could remember having been killed in Vietnam. John: I miss you!
